The HYSC 2015B Lightning Champions of 2024-25 South Jersey Cup
Highland Youth Soccer Club 2015B defeated Egg Harbor Twp to become champions of the 2024-25 South Jersey Cup tournament.
Voorhees, New Jersey - Highland Youth Soccer Club's 2015B Lightning were victorious in the Final over the 2015B Egg Harbor Township Eagles to earn Champion status of the 2024-25 South Jersey Cup. Highland converted in the final seconds of the 2nd half to earn the victory. The 4-3 result capped the multi-season run for the 2015 boys which saw them go undefeated in group play in the fall of 2024 and advance through the spring semi-fnals.
Highland's 2015 boys took a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the match on a free kick from 10 yeards beyond the 7v7 buildout line, and made the score 2-0 on a breakaway goal just after the 5' mark of the first half. mark Egg Harbor was able to cut the deficit to 1 on a goal in the 16th minute, but Highland responded with another score at 18' into the first half to restore the 2 goal lead.
Still in the first half Egg harbor again drew within 1 score at the 24 minute mark before ultimately drawing level at 26 minutes into the match. By contrast, neither team was able to find the net for nearly the entire duration of the 2nd half.
With time winding down to seconds left in the match, Highland was able to strike for the game wining goal in the 59th minute on a coast to coast run. The referee singalled full-time immediately after the restart to complete the match with Highland's 2015B as champions.
The 6 team U10 flight included 2015 teams from Egg Harbor, Haddon Heights, and Cinnaminson in Group A and Highland, Medford and Haddon Township rounding out Group B.
The Lightning completed the 2024-25 Fall group stage of the South Jersey Cup undefeated with a 7-0 win vs Medford and a 10-0 defeat of Haddon Township. Eventual finalist Egg Harbor defeated both Haddon Heights and Cinnaminson to advance to the kockout stage, scoring 11 goals while conceeding 2.
Group A saw Egg Harbor advance to the finals after defeating 2nd seed Medford from Group A, while Highland's path to the finals was via semi-final win over Haddon Heights.
The 2015 boys competed in the Balogun division of the SJ CUP which crossed over teams from multiple flights in the seasonal year-long SJ Cup tournament. The top two teams in each group advanced out of the fall group stage and into the knockout round of the spring season. The semi-final and finals rounds were hosted at netral sites selected by the South Jersey Cup competition committee.
