The LaMaina Fund was established in 1999, after the tragic loss
of Joseph "THE WEASE" LaMaina. Joseph was an avid soccer player starting at the age of
5. Joseph, along with his brother Jim, helped coach one of HYSC's earliest intramural
teams, the Boxers.
Joseph's family has kept his memory alive by having an annual soccer game in his honor with
a benefit following after. Since 2000 this event has changed a few times. It started
out as a soccer game, which has changed to a stickies half ball tournament (the participants have
aged so the game has had to slow down) and a golf tournament has been added. The Beef
and Beer Benefit always follows. This is a Family Fun day filled with prizes for everyone.
The LaMaina Family donates all proceeds to Highland Youth Soccer Club. The proceeds benefit
any child that can not afford the expense of playing soccer. It brings the LaMaina Family
a lot of joy and satisfaction to be able to give these children the privilege of playing
soccer. This year, the LaMaina Fund enabled approximately 50 children the opportunity to
play soccer, who probably wouldn't have been able to.
Please keep checking for the 2010 schedule for the Stickies Half Ball Tournament, Golf Tournament,
and Beef and Beer Benefit. Your help is greatly appreciated.
